Post-Production

Hey guys! Welcome to my very first podcast, Dorm Room Debate. For the first episode, it features three unique stories sent in by you, the viewers, where we dissect each situation to figure out who is wrong within these scenarios. Joining me for this episode will be my friends, Cydney Creekmur and Kelli Cheng. This allows the viewers to get multiple perspectives on the scenario rather than leave the final say to me. Getting three different opinions doesn’t only allow the viewer(s) to get three different suggestions to their problem(s), but they can also take parts from me and parts from my guests to combine it into their own solution. The purpose of this podcast is to help the viewers with their problems, and it also provides content to those who simply just want to pass time.

In each situation – where I like to call it “Am I The Jerk?” – I will read out the submission, and then my guests and I will provide our takes on it. We will elaborate on our thoughts and expand on each others. It is a format which listeners will find entertaining.

For the remainder of this post-episode essay, I will discuss my process in producing this podcast.

The Process

In the beginning, before even starting to record, I compiled a few stories which I found were interesting to talk about. I have informed my friends that they will not know the contents of these stories prior to the recording session so they will be able to provide their initial reactions rather than give a scripted response. This allows for the content to be spontaneous and free-flowing as their ideas come up on the spot. We give our opinions to each scenario until we feel that we have talked about everything, then we move on to the next subject.

Editing the recording took me awhile as I decided which parts should be kept and which parts should be cut. I feel that the episode ended up being great after editing, as it was informative as well as comical. I feel like this is the best way to keep our viewers listening. The funny parts keep them wanting to listen more, all the while they are absorbing the informative stuff as well.

Moving on to the creation of the podcast title, it was thought up as my friends and I would always discuss or debate about certain topics inside our dorm rooms. I found it to be extremely fitting as our episode was produced inside our dorm room rather than in a recording studio. Not only that, but our podcast content doesn’t dive into subjects that are extremely serious, so there’s no need for a serious title; it’s just dorm room talk. And to almost match alliteratively, we decided on the ending word “debate”.
